Aside from the PAL vs Palea row that has seriously hampered the operation of the flag carrier and irritated thousands of passengers, another big problem hits the air transport industry of the Philippines.
A travel website The Guide to Sleeping in Airports named the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 as the world’s worst airport for 2011.
The site said that the airport that was number 5 last year is a failure in terms of safety standards, comfort and facilities for all travellers. These things, the site added, shy away travellers.
Aside from the facilities, one dreaded experience at the NAIA is the rampant incidents of bribery and thefts.
The list came up from the set of poll results conducted by the site in terms of the following categories: “site visitor votes; reviews submitted to the site over the past year; and information provided by airports regarding their facilities.”
Officials of NAIA were deeply saddened by the result of the review of the website saying that many of those things listed as flaws in the airport from last year were already addressed. The management also said that there are more plans to improve the services and safety in the airport.
General Manager Jose Angel Honrado described the ranking as “unfair”.
“Palagay ko hindi masyadong makatarungan yung pag-declare nila ng worst airport. However, we take this as a challenge, we have done so much already.”
This year’s best airport comes from the country’s neighbour, the Changi Airport of Singapore.
Do you agree that NAIA is the world’s worst airport in terms of facilities, security, cleanliness and safety? Any bad or good experience inside NAIA?
