After speculations on who will be eliminated in American Idol, Jessica Sanchez survived the finals in the popular American singing competition.
The Filipina-Mexican finalist and Phillip Phillips will battle it out in the American Idol finale on May 24 after Joshua Ledet has been eliminated. Ledet was eliminated due to the least number of votes.
Sanchez was the first Filipina to reach the finals of American Idol. The furthest a Filipino contestant has ever gone into the competition was third place, when Filipina settler from Hawaii Jasmine Trias was removed from the Top Three throughout its third season in 2004.
Jessica Sanchez lives in Chula Vista, San Diego, and is the eldest daughter of Mexican-American Gilbert and Filipina Editha Sanchez.
Previously, she was praised by the AI judges during her performance yesterday. In her rendition of Maria Carey’s “My All,” Randy Jackson said that Jessica’s version is one of the best Maria Carey cover performed on television.
“That was absolutely beautiful, perfectly the right song for you. I’m telling you what, I think it’s one of the best times a Mariah song has ever been performed on TV.” said Jackson.
Steven Tyler gave Sanchez a standing ovation when he heard her performance of Aerosmith’s hit song “IDon’t Want to Miss a Thing.”
“Well, you just took a great song and made it greater. Thank you. Yeah, yeah, you did.” said Tyler.
Jennifer Lopez as well praised Sanchez and compared her “I’ll Be There” rendition to King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
“Good job, baby. It was perfect tone in your voice. You almost sounded like Michael.” JLo. Said.
