Filipino boxer Mark Barriga wins first Fight vs. Italian Boxer

Filipino Olympian boxer Mark Barriga succeeded in defeating Italy’s Manuel Cappai in the first round for the light flyweight elimination round on Tuesday, July 31 with the score of 17-7.

All the way through the match, Barriga unbelievably beat his opponent on each round.

In the first round, the Filipino boxer started overpowering the Italian making him almost fall on his knees, finishing the round with 5-2 lead.

Barriga continuously prevailed in the second round, giving his opponent powerful counterpunches, wherein he got a lead of 9-4 into the round.

Both fighters became more hostile in the third round, making the referee to halt the match with 30 seconds remaining to let Barriga to fix his head gear. Though Cappai tried harder during the last seconds of the third round, it was too difficult for him to match Barriga.

After three intense rounds, Barriga was declared the winner.

His next battle, in which he advances to the second round of 16, will be on Friday, August 4.
