The Comedy King Dolphy Quizon Passes Away

After a month-long fight with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Comedy King Dolphy passed away.

His spokesperson Nene Riego said the 83-year old comedian passed away at the Makati Medical Center exactly 8:34 pm Tuesday.

Dolphy was rushed at the ICU of Makati Medical Center on June 9 after having  trouble in breathing. Since he was hospitalized, he underwent several blood transfusion and dialysis procedures and also had complications due to pneumonia.

In the last couple of days, doctors said that Dolphy’s health was improving and getting stable, giving fans the hope that the actor may soon be moved from the ICU to his regular room.

Dolphy’s stellar career all started in theater.  The young man from Tondo was first a vendor in a theater and then soon became one of the performers showing his dancing prowess.

His entry into the silver screen is attributed to the late Fernando Poe Sr., the father of the FPJ.  From there, his career never looked backed as fans loved his portrayal of many roles.

According to reports, Dolphy have made more than 200 movies.  But the actor said in one interview that his movies could reach to more than 1,000 if it will include his stints as ‘extra’ in many movies in the past as he was just starting his career.

Burial of King of Comedy is tentatively scheduled on Sunday though an official statement about this matter is expected to be made today by the family of the well-loved actor.

Dolphy could have turned 84 birthday on July 25.
