Gilas Pilipinas, all set for the knockout stage in FIBA Asia Cup

There would be a two-day break for the Philippine basketball team before start of the knockout stage in the 4th FIBA Asia Cup held in Tokyo, Japan.

The three previous matches of Smart Gilas Pilipinas were all impressive wins; however, their opening match against China was their only defeat in the tournament.

According to a report, national team head Coach Chot Reyes said there would be no easy game through the knockout stage because all of the remaining teams are very difficult opponents.

Apparently, the Philippine team might face the Chinese or Qatar team in the next round.

“Looks like whichever team it is, it’ll be a tough one,” said national team head coach Chot Reyes. “Our biggest concern is we have two days off…. “It looks like it’ll either be Qatar or Chinese Taipei. Both are as good or as tough as the other.”

One the final round of the group stage, Smart Gilas Pilipinas advanced 52 points against Macau and defeated them, scoring 98-46.
