Azkals vs Lions: The Philippines has once again gained a semi-finals position in the AFF Suzuki Cup.
The impressive wins of the Philippine Azkals against Vietnam (1-0) and Myanmar (2-0) will make them face the Singapore. The home game for the Azkals, which they lost the opportunity of having in 2010 due to the poor quality of the football field back then, will be on December 12, 2012. It will be held at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Although, the two teams had clashed in the past and the Azkals prevailed in both exhibition matches, the Philippine team is not letting their guards down and will not be over-confident come game time on Saturday.
The team was advised by Coach Hans Michael Weiss to forget about their past wins as the Singaporean team will surely come out roaring in the match. Coach Weiss said,
“It best we do not even think about those wins so we do not get comfortable. We are gonna face them, 0-0, from scratch and we have to work hard to deserve a win.”
The German mentor also added,
“They (Singapore) know how to handle the pressure, they are very experienced and very mature. They have a coach who has won this tournament twice, I am sure he knows exactly what to do with his team.”
For the team at this point of the tournament, what has been identified to be a very important factor in order to win is cohesiveness.
So far, it remains uncertain if Jerry Lucena, Angel Guirado and Dennis Cagara could be present on the pitch as they reported back to their respective clubs. The team however continues to ask for the permission and negotiate to the clubs to let these players have their time against the Lions.
The game is going to be aired live by AKTIV and will have the replay also on tha same network.
