Bradley-Marquez fight to be held in September

Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum has confirmed the forthcoming title defense of WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley vs. Juan Manuel Marquez, after he stated that the match will take place on September 14 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas Nevada.

According to reports, Arum said Top Rank President Todd DuBeof holds the fight contract which is approved by the two fighters.

“The fight is agreed to. We have contracts out to both fighters. Top Rank President Todd DuBoef worked hard with both sides and (Marquez co-promoter) Fernando (Beltran) worked hard with Marquez and we came to terms with both of them,” said Arum. “These guys wanted to fight each other too. They really wanted to fight each other, even though either of them could have opted to fight Manny. But Bradley-Marquez is an interesting fight. People are going to see an action fight.”

The date of the match concurs with the Mexican Independence Day.

Aside from the Bradley-Marquez bout of Top Rank Promotions, rival promotional company Golden Boy Promotions also scheduled a match on the said date. WBA/WBC middleweight champion Saul Alvarez will go to the boxing ring once again wherein he might apparently face Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Manny Pacquiao to face Mike Alvarado this October

Former eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao will be back in the ring later this year.

According to reports, he will be fighting WBA lightweight champion Mike Alvarado this coming October. Alvarado’s manager Henry Delgado reportedly stated that they agreed to face Pacman and they will negotiate the contract sooner.

Delgado also said that if they have agreed upon the fight purse, the Pacquiao-Alvarado fight will be pushed through.

In previous reports, Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum mentioned Alvarado’s name as the next possible opponent for Manny.

Alvarado earlier beaten WBA undefeated lightweight champion Brandon Rios during their rematch held last March. The Mexican-American boxer won by unanimous decision after 12 rounds.

Nonito Donaire, 7 lbs Overweight

WBO junior featherweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. expects that his forthcoming match with WBA champion Guillermo Rigondeaux would be a tactical fight.

Donaire told the reporters that he is conditioning his body for the upcoming fight and he is currently reducing his weight. The weight limit is 122 pounds; however, Donaire Jr. is 7 pounds overweight.

In spite of being overweight, the Filipino champion guarantees there will be no difficulties when his fight comes.

The Donaire-Rigondeaux championship bout will take place on April 14 at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Pacquiao’s Match to take place in Singapore or Macau

Manny Pacquiao might have a rematch with his arch-rival Juan Manuel Marquez in September in a new venue.

According to a report, Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum stated that he is trying to work on a fifth sequel between Pacquiao and Marquez in Macau or Singapore.

The promoter allegedly announced the news at the Brandon Rios-Mike Alvarado fight that the rematch would take place at one of the Venetian hotel-casinos in Macau or Singapore.

“The thing we’re waiting on is which one of their hotels they want to do it at,” Arum said.

It seems that Marquez would be presumably the ideal opponent for Pacman, though Arum pointed out earlier that Timothy Bradley, who won a controversial decision against Pacquiao a year ago might be another option.

Marquez cold-cocked the Filipino boxer in the sixth round in December, knocking him out with a right hand that left him unconscious on the ring for a couple of minutes. It was Marquez’s first triumph in their four matches.

Apparently, the Pacquiao-Marquez match would not take place from Last Vegas, where they brawled all four of their matches. The MGM Grand hotel would usually be the host for the fight, but it appears that the hotel is working on an event for Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September.

This week, Arum will be in Macau for the fight card on Saturday at the Venetian which features China’s two-time Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming in his pro debut.

Brian Viloria wins via TKO against Hernan Marquez

Brian Viloria stops Hernan Marquez as he defeated him in the 10th round on Saturday, getting Marquez’s World Boxing Association (WBA) flyweight world title.

“The Hawaiian Punch” knocked Marquez down with a right late in round one and continued to take over the early rounds.

On the fifth round, Marquez went active as he gave the Fil-Am boxer a series of beating; however, Viloria manages to carry on and reversed the situation.

“I knew it looked bad but I wasn’t hurt,” Viloria said. “I knew he was going to get tired.”

On round 10, Marquez’s corner threw the towel in and the referee stopped the match at 1:01when Viloria sent the Mexican boxer down a third time with a left to the head.

After his loss to Carlos Tamara two years ago, Viloria expanded his victories to six fights since his technical knockout win against Mexico’s Omar Romero in the Philippines on May 13 this year. He has now a record of 32-3 with 19 KO’s, while Marquez fell to 34-3 with 25 knockouts.

For WBO flyweight champion Brian Viloria, his upcoming fight versus Hernan “Tyson” Marquez is his “make or break” match, reports say.

According to a report, the “Hawaiian Punch” seems like he considers his next fight as a farewell bout for his entire boxing career, as the Filipino boxer said he wants to make a mark in boxing before retiring.

Apparently, Viloria also said he wants to have a successful knockout victory in his approaching fight.

“The goal is to make that (knockout) happen,” says Viloria.

Brian Viloria has had three successive victories, as he defeated Mexico’s Julio Cesar “Pingo” Miranda, Giovanni Segura and especially his rematch against Omar Nino Romero with a 9th round TKO win happened earlier this year.

On the other hand, Hernan Marquez considers his match with Viloria as the greatest fight for his boxing career. In 36 professional fights of the Mexican champion, only 2 Filipino boxers defeated him, such as Richie Mepranum and world super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr.

The Viloria-Marquez unification fight will take place this Sunday at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California.

Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria is fighting up in the ring against another champion.

Viloria who holds the record of 31-3, 18 Kos will face Hernan “Tyson” Marquez on November 17, 2012 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena in USA. The fight dubbed as “Champion vs Champion” is for the WBO and WBA unification championship.

Brian Viloria is the reigning WBO flyweight champion while the Mexican Hernan Marquez is the World Boxing Association flyweight champion.

The fight is going to be aired live in the United States and in other parts of the world by WealthTV.com. In Mexico, it will be broadcast by Azteca7 channel.

Brian now trains under Coach Freddie Roach while Marquez trains under the Robert Garcia, former coach of Brian.

Roach said that they should be very careful of Marquez as the Mexican got lots of bullets in its arsenal. He described Brian’s opponent as a “very good counter-puncher.” He added that,

“He has knockout power. He is one of those small guys who can knock you out.”

Viloria on the other hand said that he is confident that he will win over Marquez and added that he expects to make the weight by next week.

Winner of this fight may face the Filipino Milan “El Metodico” Melindo who is the number 1 WBO flyweight. Melindo holds the record of 20 wins with no losses and 11 coming by way of KOS.

Donaire vs Arce Live on HBO on December 15

Donaire vs Arce Fight: “The Filipino Flash” is once again going up the ring to fight one of the toughest boxers in his division.

Donaire is facing the Mexican boxer Jorge Arce. The fight is on December 15 and is going to be held in Houston, Texas.

Nonito Donaire came off a good TKO win over bantamweight king Nishioka. And with this fight against the Mexican warrior is seen to be a very explosive night of boxing.

Arce holds a fight record of 61-6-2, 46 KO while Donaire has a spectacular record of 30-1, 19 Kos.

In this fight, Arce is seen to be the underdog, although he says that he is quite comfortable with that role. He added that he can and will knockout Donaire. He said,

“I am sure that I will knock him out. … I fight better, with more confidence and with more desire when I’m the underdog. And on this occasion it will be no different.”

The two should have slugged it out in the ring two years ago but negotiations failed. Most recently, Donaire revealed that it was Arce who makes the negotiations very difficult as he demands a big paycheck for that match. But issues were solved and the fight is on.

A win by Donaire will certainly give him a superstar status and will also give him the opportunity of raking in more cash with PPV.

A win by Arce on the other hand will raise questions as to the quality of opponents Donaire had in the past and will also give the Mexican more prestige and maybe possible fight with Abner Mares who recently won a unanimous decision against Anselmo Moreno.

Will it be an expected win or a big upset? We will see on December 15.

Donaire and Arce face each other at Houston Press

After four years of negotiation, the much-awaited match between four-time world champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. and five-time world champion Jorge “Travieso” Arce would soon take place.

The two fighters guaranteed that their fight would be bloody in front of the fans and international media in a fight news conference held in Houston, Texas.

According to Arce, though Nonito is his good friend, but he will set aside their friendship to win the bout.

“I want to make this clear, I’m going to win…Nonito is a very good friend, but unfortunately this is business,” said Arce.

On the other hand, Donaire reportedly confessed he waited for this fight to happen for over four years, so he’ll make sure he’ll give his opponent a good match.

“This fight has been on and off for the last four years…it’s gonna be bloody, it’s gonna be tough, it’s gonna be rough. This is going to be an exciting fight!” Donaire said.

The Donaire-Arce fight will take place at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on December 15. The fight will be televised live on HBO Championship Boxing.

Marquez on Pacquiao: “Tell him to train hard”

A month to go before their forthcoming rematch, 3-division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez reportedly addressed Manny Pacquiao to work harder on his training.

In interview, the Mexican boxer said that he will not hesitate to knock Pacman out if there is a chance to prove the world that he is a stronger and a greater boxer.

“Tell him (Pacquiao) to train hard because I am training very hard,” Marquez reportedly said in an interview.

In the meantime, Marquez is busy on his training at the Romanza Gym in Mexico City. It was also said that Marquez allegedly knocked out one of his sparring partners.

On the other hand, Pacquiao is on his second week of training at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles under Freddie Roach’s supervision.
