According to a report, the hactivist group claims their operation ‘OpIsrael’ had either damaged or totally destroyed approximately 650 private and public Israeli sites, including the Bank of Jerusalem.

“Bank of Jerusalem database has been deleted.” Anonymous tweeted.

They also reportedly hacked Israel’s foreign ministry website in disapproval against a suspected Israeli threat to cut off Gaza Strip’s Internet connections.

Apparently, Anonymous used their Anonpaste.me site to call out the Israeli government and link to a page with names, ID numbers and personal emails of 5,000 Israeli officials.

On the other hand, Israel’s finance minister reportedly addressed the internet attacks, asserting the Israeli government declares war on a “second front.”

According to reports, a major internet “blackout” could possibly happen due to an Alureon malware which is also known as the “Internet Doomsday” virus.

On the other hand, experts say Alureon virus is less dangerous compared to previous viruses such as Zeus and Spyeye.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation said that if a computer is infected by the Alureon virus, its internet access is moved in the rogue DNS servers controlled by the hackers.

In the United States, the internet servers are preparing for the said “Internet doomsday” scenario and security firms created websites to provide information on how to eradicate the virus.

Seven people were charged in the US after the suspects allegedly spread the Alureon virus.  Six of them were arrested in Estonia while the other one is from Russia and remains at large.

Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook has bought photo-sharing software company Instagram for $1 billion.  And to make people say more “ooh” and “aah” to this deal, the social networking giant that first started in Harvard will pay Instagram in cash and Facebook stocks.  This purchase is even more expensive than what New York Times is worth!

Of course, the stock value that the photo-sharing company will receive will even increase in value as Facebook’s most-awaited initial public offering (IPO) will happen next month.

The app is being used by at least 30 million users world wide including celebrities in altering and posting images using their smartphones and tablets.  It is also now available in an Andriod version aside from its popular Apple app version.

Instagram founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, who are both 26 years of age, instantly join the league of young and  ultra rich men.

There are however comments from several technology observers that the purchase may not be all too good for Instagram.

We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience. We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.

These and many other features are important parts of the Instagram experience and we understand that. We will try to learn from Instagram’s experience to build similar features into our other products. At the same time, we will try to help Instagram continue to grow by using Facebook’s strong engineering team and infrastructure.

This is an important milestone for Facebook because it’s the first time we’ve ever acquired a product and company with so many users. We don’t plan on doing many more of these, if any at all. But providing the best photo sharing experience is one reason why so many people love Facebook and we knew it would be worth bringing these two companies together.

We’re looking forward to working with the Instagram team and to all of the great new experiences we’re going to be able to build together.

We’ve got to wait and see then if this $1 billion purchase is worth it for Facebook.

Research in Motion announced on Thursday this development that certainly excited Blackberry users.

Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-Chief Executive of RIM said,

“We are thrilled to be extending the experience into a uniquely social and interactive music service.”

Users will be able to put in about 50 songs that aside from listening to these compilations and enjoying them in high quality sound, they can also share their collection with their friends through their “BBM Music Community” using its messenger feature.

The collaboration was signed by RIM with titans of the music industry – Warner, Sony, EMI, Sony and Universal.

The first countries that will be able to use this feature are the United States, Britain and Canada. The company announced though that the feature will be made available worldwide before 2011 comes to a close.

Monthly rate is $4.99, said the company announcement.

This new feature of Blackberry is seen as a move for the Canada-based company to keep up with the stiff competition with Apple and Google’s Android.
